Tournament terms, defined
The vocabulary behind NextGameCoach — with the specific numbers coaches actually need.
- Pitch count
- The running total of pitches a player has thrown. NextGameCoach tracks it live; for Little League Senior (ages 13-16) the daily maximum is 95 pitches.
- Rest day
- Required days off from pitching based on pitches thrown. For ages 13-16: 1-30 pitches = 0 days, 31-45 = 1 day, 46-60 = 2 days, 61-75 = 3 days, 76-95 = 4 days.
- Fair play
- A minimum-participation target — for example minimum innings or plate appearances per player. NextGameCoach flags who is behind and biases lineup suggestions toward them.
- Leverage
- A measure of how high-stakes a game situation is. High-leverage moments (close and late) are where pitching and lineup decisions matter most.
- Post-change runs
- Runs scored after a pitching change, used to evaluate whether a substitution helped or hurt.
- Compliance log
- A record of pitch counts and rest days that demonstrates a team followed the rule set — useful if eligibility is ever questioned.
- Availability
- Whether a player can pitch in the next game given their pitch count and required rest. NextGameCoach computes this automatically between games.
- Two-device sync
- Two devices sharing one live game — for example a scorekeeper logging pitches while the head coach watches availability and lineup suggestions.
